Overnight at hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Modern Delhi spreads over the remains of nearly a dozen earlier centers which once occupied this vital strategic site. Old Delhi was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Focusing on his great Red Fort and Jama Masjid this old city is still a dense network of narrow alleys and tightly packed markets and houses. Immediately to the south is the British-built capital of New Delhi. Day 2: Delhi Full day guided sightseeing of New and Old Delhi including Raj Ghat, Shanti Vana, Jama Masjid, Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, India Gate (War Memorial Arch), Lakshminarayan Temple, Lotus Temple. Also drive past President's House, Parliament House, Government Secretariat Buildings and Connaught Place shopping centre. In the evening view, dances of India show. Overnight hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Day 3: Delhi - Mandawa Morning drive to Mandawa. Afternoon visit to the nearby village to know the local culture. Overnight at the Heritage Castle on bed and breakfast basis. At Fatehpur, a country road to the east takes you to Mandawa. Founded in the mid-18th century, it has interesting murals in the large rugged fort built by Thakur Nawal Singh, which is now a hotel. Day 4: Mandawa - Bikaner Morning drive to Bikaner. Afternoon guided city tour including a visit to temples and bazaars, Junagarh Fort and Lalgarh Fort. Overnight hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Bikaner is an oasis town among scrub and sand dunes. The rocky outcrop in a barren landscape provides a dramatic setting for the Junagarh Fort, one of the finest in western Rajasthan. The old walled city retains a medieval air, while outside the walls, palaces and mansions survive Day 5: Bikaner - Jaisalmer Morning drive to Jaisalmer. Evening free. Overnight hotel on bed and breakfast basis. The approach to Jaisalmer across the hot barren desert is magical as the city shimmers like a mirage. With the crenellated golden sandstone town walls and narrow streets lined with exquisitely carved buldings, through which camel carts trundle leisurely, it has an extraordinarily medieval feel and an incredible atmosphere. Day 6: Jaisalmer Full day guided city tour including Jaisalmer fort, Rajmahal Palace followed by a short camel safari. Overnight hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Day 7: Jaisalmer - Khimsar After breakfast drive to Khimsar. Evening jeep safari at the Sam Sand dunes. Overnight hotel on bed and breakfast basis. On the edge of the desert, Khimsar was founded by the Jain saint Mahavir 2,500 years ago. It is a remote 15th century Rajput fort in the desert where the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb is believed to have stayed. Karam Singh, the fifth son of Rao Jodha, built the moated castle as a fortified home. Over the centuries, it has been expanded by each generation and this is evident in its diverse architectural style. Day 8: Khimsar - Jodhpur After breakfast proceed to Jodhpur. Late afternoon guided tour of Jodhpur - includes Meherangarh Fort - one of the most impressive and formidable in the whole of fort - studded Rajasthan. Also visit Jaswant Thada - the Royal Cenotaphs. Overnight at hotel. The second city of Rajasthan, once the capital of Marwar, Jodhpur sprawls around the massively impressive clifftop Meherangarh Fort, one of the most rewarding in the state. The outer city, covering a large area, has the added bonus of the vast Umaid BhawanPalace with its art deco interior. Day 9: Jodhpur-Udaipur via Ranakpur By road to Udaipur (260 kms), enroute visit Ranakpur Jain Temples the most magnificent 15th century Jain temples. The most distinctive features are the 29 halls supported by 1444 pillars, of which no two are exactly alike. Thereafter continue drive to Udaipur, check into the hotel. Set in the Girwa valley amidst the Aravalli hills of south Rajasthan, Udaipur is a beautiful city, regarded by many as one of the most romantic in India. In contrast to some of its desert neighbours it presents an enchanting image of white marble palaces, placid blue lakes, attractive gardens and green hill that keep the wilderness at bay. Day 10: Udaipur Full day guided sightseeing including a visit to the City Palace and wandering through its beautiful rooms and apartments, then continue on to the Garden of Maidens "Sahelion-ki-bari'. Late afternoon enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Pichola. Overnight at hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Day 11 : Udaipur-Pushkar By road to Pushkar. Afternoon visits to the temples and the Pushkar Lake. Overnight at hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Pushkar lies in a narrow dry valley overshadowed by impressive rocky hills which offer spectacular views of the desert at sunset. The lake at its heart, almost magically beautiful in the early morning or later evening light, is one of India's most sacred. The celebrated Pushkar Fair transforms the quiet village to a colourful week of heightened activity. Day 12 : Pushkar-Jaipur Drive to Jaipur, the pink city. Evening free. Overnight at hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Jaipur, the colourful capital of a richly colourful state, is a highly distinctive planned city, made all the more attractive by the pink wash that most buildings are periodically given. It has some fine museums in the atmospheric Old city with its bazaars, palaces and havelis and a couple of forts. Day 13 : Jaipur Full day guided sightseeing of Jaipur city including City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar-Mantar, Jal Mahal followed by elephant ride at Amber Fort. Overnight hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Day 14 : Jaipur-Agra After breakfast drive back to Agra via Fatehpur Sikri. Overnight hotel on bed and breakfast basis. The red sandstone capital of Emperor Akbar, one of his architectural achievements spreadking along a ridge. The great mosque and palace buildings, deserted after only 14 years are still a vivid reminder of his power and vision. The best way of viewing the Taj is to do so at different times of the day and year. The white marble of the Taj is extraordinary luminescent and even on dull days seems bright. The whole building appears to change its hue according to the light in the sky. Day 15 : Agra-Delhi Sunrise view of Taj Mahal. Return to hotel for breakfast.
